Dave LaMure Jr. lives in the Magic Valley of Idaho where the Great Basin meets the southern cliffs of the Snake River. Dave has worked with clay since he was twelve years old. Since that time, he has developed an art uniquely his own from monumental public bronze sculptures to large oil canvases. Dave uses his bronze vessels as a foundation much like a canvas for a painting using detailed bas-relief depicting iconic wildlife. LaMure's contemporary sculpted wildlife vessels caught the eye of Sophia Loren and she awarded his work best of show, an honor that came with a kiss. His art of bas-relief, with the size and detail of each work follows an innovative path.
LaMure has mastered his fine art with innovative techniques seeing the unseen. James Woods, director of the Herrett Museum and Center for Arts. Says “David has managed to successfully mix the warmth and softness of the technique with a contemporary concern for bold forms. LaMure's forms are huge, dynamic and commanding.” Combining art forms together has taken years of trial and error, and has given Dave's pieces the identity of art on the cutting edge.
LaMure is an avid outdoorsman who is at home in the western wilds where he has been a wilderness river guide. Much of his work is inspired by his experiences in the wilds, which drives his art. LaMure’s works are intended to stimulate awareness of the natural rhythms of life, death and belonging; a narrative to symbiotic relationships. He knows that his experiences alter perception, and he shares that awareness with those who view his art.
