Becoming the Moose

The iconic moose is considered one with its place on the earth. A fascinating cycle of birth, life, death, decomposition, and re-birth beholds this great species. This tickles at the seed of relationship. Where does wholeness start and end? Am I separate or one with my body, my family, my community, my town, my continent, my earth, my galaxy, my universe? Are we stitched together into oneness before we are born, after our bodies are gone, or life, the space between?

The moose draws your eyes around in an endless continual circle as oneness on the vessel. The splits and cracks symbolize the dichotomy of questions. How can a human feel like they don’t belong when everything else does? Do I become one at my birth, ego, life, death, decomposition, or conception? Is this life a linear or circular event? These seeds of musing consciousness are cast in “Becoming the Moose”, a bronze vessel that carries psychic fertilizer.

I mend these ideas back together from the past to the present. Wisdom from indigenous cultures sutured these concepts together long ago, as the circle of life, therefore, becoming one with the moose.

The Vessel

Throughout history the vessel has the symbol and function of abundance, something carried, stored or held. I look at my bronze vessels seeing the story on the outside and knowing there is more to the inside. Working on the material from clay, to glowing molten bronze this finished work now looks pliable, malleable and impressionable. This reliquary contains the power of being altered by experience. The intangible space inside transports valuable wisdom, like an unearthed ancient relic. Listening to others, I hear stories, emotions, and inspirations of life. The leather tethers hanging in the center of these vessels symbolize the gathering of wisdom. This work is a timeless bronze vessel that carries your intentions forward.

About Dave LaMure Jr.

Dave LaMure Jr. lives in the Magic Valley of Idaho where the Great Basin meets the southern cliffs of the Snake River. Dave has worked with clay since he was twelve years old. Since that time, he has developed an art uniquely his own from monumental public bronze sculptures to large oil canvases. Dave's innovative style of sculpting vessels is new to the world of clay and bronze. Proof that Sofia Loren awarded him best of show and a kiss, that is a high honor. The fine art of bas-relief, size and detail of each piece is unknown before. Look for a manifestation of feeling, heart, form, movement, composition and value.
