Corno means, “horn”. It is an Italian amulet of ancient origin. The stylized horn has evolved from a natural goat or sheep horn to that of a twisted African descent. Most cornos are carved out of red coral, becoming a smooth impression of a horn.
The old European moon goddess, Luna, found all horned animals to be sacred, most likely because the horns pointed toward the moon.
This Italian charm was protection against the “Evil Eye”. The evil eye is believed to harm nursing mothers and their babies, bearing fruit trees, and the sperm of men-generational forces.
The “Corno” piece built for Dennis and Sally has the evolution of the horn amulet. The opening in the vessel is a stylized Moon Goddess with a full moon. The vessel has a feminine composition. The rounded glass object is knapped out of Italian wine bottles melted down at 2000 degrees. The glass circle represents the ominous evil eye or the benign moon goddess, the dichotomy of good and evil.
